Twelve Years, Twelve Thousand Miles May, 2012 We bought our Whitby 42, Rovinkind II, in 2000 and since then we have sailed her approximately twelve thousand miles. Much of this has been "blue water" sailing - extended passages on the open ocean. Twice to the Caribbean with the Caribbean 1500 rally, twice back to Nova Scotia directly from the Caribbean. A winter in the Bahamas with an ocean passage from Beaufort NC each way, and many many miles exploring the Bahamas and Eastern Caribbean from the US Virgins to Martinique. While in Canada we sailed the entire south coast of Nova Scotia. Now it is time to move on. So it is with delight and regret that we have sold Rovinkind II to new owners based in Halifax. They will take possession within the next few days. They plan to head south in a few years; we wish them well and are looking forward to reports of their adventures. What will we do next? As many of you know, we spent much of last winter in La Antigua, Guatemala. There we met other ex-sailors who have moved onto the land. We plan to return again this winter to work on our Spanish and enjoy a diverse community of Guatemaltecos, Mayans, and ex-pats from the US, Canada and Europe. We will become, as we are now, CLODs - Cruisers Living On Dirt. Fair Winds... |
